Clinical Supervision at Clinic Altera: Honoring the Lineage of Therapy

By Amanda Hankins, MSW, T.S., Clinical Director, Clinic Altera

Introduction

Choosing the right supervisor can feel deeply personal. For many therapists, supervision is not just about accountability or hours, but about finding a space to grow into the kind of clinician they want to become. At Clinic Altera, our clinical supervision program is rooted in the belief that therapy itself is a lineage. It is an art, a science, and a form of apprenticeship passed through relationship and reflection.

Supervision here is designed to help you slow down, integrate your training, and find your own authentic clinical posture. Whether you join us in person in Montreal or virtually from anywhere in Quebec or Ontario, you are invited into a reflective learning space that honors both your mind and your nervous system.

Designed for Growth and Flexibility

Every clinician’s path is unique. Our individual supervision program is designed to adapt to your developmental stage, orientation, and professional goals.

Supervision sessions often include the use of video or transcript review, allowing us to study your tone, presence, and attunement in the therapy room. These reflections are never about judgment; they are about cultivating awareness and clinical artistry. Together, we look at transference and countertransference, at your parts and your client’s, and at how your nervous system moves through the clinical encounter.

This process helps you refine your stance, strengthen your boundaries, and deepen your capacity for co-regulation and repair.

The Apprenticeship Model

Therapy cannot be learned only from books. It is learned through immersion, reflection, and relationship. Supervision at Clinic Altera follows a modern apprenticeship model that honors how generations of therapists have learned their craft: through guided practice, real feedback, and shared curiosity.

In this model, you are not only learning techniques; you are cultivating a posture of attunement and inquiry. You are invited to bring your full self into supervision—your questions, your missteps, your insights, and your growth edges. Together, we explore what arises in the room and what it evokes in you.

This is not a space to perform. It is a space to evolve.

Evidence-Informed and Deeply Relational

While supervision at Clinic Altera honors intuition and lineage, it is grounded in evidence-informed frameworks and professional ethics. We draw from:

  • Psychodynamic and relational approaches to understand how early experiences shape therapeutic presence

  • IFS and parts-work perspectives to bring awareness to the internal systems active in both therapist and client

  • Somatic and polyvagal-informed practices to support nervous system regulation and embodied awareness

  • Ethical and professional standards of the OPQ, OTSTCFQ, and OCSWSSW to ensure integrity, competence, and accountability

For those completing licensing or official supervision hours, you must be practicing and located in Quebec or Ontario, where Amanda is licensed to provide formal supervision under the professional orders. However, mentorship and practice-deepening supervision are available to clinicians across Canada and internationally, supporting reflective growth and advanced clinical development.

Why This Matters

True supervision is not about control; it is about cultivation. When clinicians are given time, safety, and guidance to reflect on their work, they rediscover creativity and presence. Many describe feeling more confident, more connected to their purpose, and more grounded in the therapy room.

Supervision at Clinic Altera helps you:

  • Refine your clinical posture and deepen your therapeutic presence

  • Understand and work with transference and countertransference

  • Explore parts-work and internal dynamics with compassion and curiosity

  • Build sustainable practices that honor your humanity as much as your professionalism

This process strengthens both your competence and your capacity for connection.
