Intensive Programs at Clinic Altera

Our psychotherapy intensives are designed for individuals and couples seeking focused, immersive support that condenses months of therapy into a structured, short-term format. Each intensive combines evidence-based approaches, extended sessions, and follow-up care to support lasting integration and growth.

Psychotherapy Intensive

  • Deep, focused psychotherapy designed for accelerated growth, integration, and understanding.

Sometimes, weekly 50-minute sessions aren’t enough. For clients who feel stuck, overthink, or lose momentum between sessions, our Psychotherapy Intensives provide a powerful alternative.

Instead of months of psychotherapy stretched out over time, intensives allow you to dive deeply into your process over the course of just a few days. You’ll work closely with your psychotherapist in longer, carefully structured sessions that create space for deeper exploration, insight, and integration.

Research has shown that psychotherapy intensives are a highly effective model of care, helping clients achieve meaningful progress in a shorter period of time while maintaining lasting change through structured follow-up support.

  • Psychotherapy Intensives are especially valuable for:

    • Deep thinkers and over-analyzers – If you tend to intellectualize and “live in your head,” intensives provide the time and safety to move past defenses, connect with your emotions, and experience breakthroughs that weekly sessions may not reach.

    • Clients stuck in cycles of rumination – When you find yourself going over the same issues without resolution, intensives offer a focused reset, creating space for new insight, release, and forward movement.

    • People who lose momentum in weekly psychotherapy – Instead of waiting a week between sessions and losing traction, intensives keep you immersed and supported, allowing for faster integration and growth.

    • High performers and professionals – For those with full schedules, intensives allow you to prioritize your well-being without long-term weekly commitments. In just a few days, you can accomplish the depth of work that might otherwise take months.

    • Major life transitions, grief, trauma, burnout, or pivotal decisions – Intensives give you a dedicated, structured container to pause, reset, and find clarity when life feels overwhelming.

    • Burnout, stress leave, or acute relational/work stress – If you’re in crisis or on a short-term leave, intensives offer a rare opportunity to address urgent issues with depth and immediacy, giving you tools and insight to return to life with renewed resilience.

In short, intensives are designed for people who don’t just want to talk about change, they’re ready to experience it. They provide the time, focus, and safety to do meaningful work in days, not months, leaving you with clarity, momentum, and a stronger connection to yourself.

If you’ve ever wished for more time in a session, or felt that just as things open up you’re out of time, intensives may be right for you.

  • The program begins with a 90-minute intake session, which we call “trial therapy”, where you and your psychotherapist set goals, clarify needs, and design the intensive structure that best fits you.

The Intensive Week: 10 Hours of Psychotherapy

Your 10 hours of psychotherapy can be scheduled flexibly across 3–5 days, depending on your needs.

    • Example: 2 hours per day for 5 days

    • Example: 3–4–3 hours across 3 days

    • Example: 2–3–3–2 hours across 4 days

This flexibility allows you to engage deeply, while still leaving time for rest, reflection, and integration between sessions.

    An Integrative Approach

    Our model is integrative, combining:

    • Depth psychotherapy & psychodynamics, to explore unconscious patterns.

    • Relational work, focusing on attachment, interpersonal dynamics, and connection.

    • Trauma-informed care with grounding, creating safety and stability.

    • Somatic, body-focused approaches, attuning to the nervous system and physical experience.

    • Solution-focused psychotherapy, setting clear and attainable goals, and actively tracking progression both during the intensive and throughout the follow-up sessions.

Sessions can include more than conversation:

    • Reading, writing, and narrative therapy techniques

    • Mapping relationships and exploring patterns (Internal Family Systems)

    • Art-based or other creative expression exercises

    • Somatic regulation practices (breathwork, grounding, movement)

    • Brainspotting

    • Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)

    • Emotional Freedom Techniques (tapping)

    • Emotional Focused Therapy - attachment-based couples therapy techniques

    • Mindfulness and meditation exercises

    • Even gentle yoga-based practices to support mind-body integration

This multidimensional and goal-oriented approach allows each intensive to be customized to your needs, ensuring both deep exploration and concrete progress that continues to unfold with structured follow-up support.

    The Ongoing Support: Follow-Up Sessions

After your intensive week, you’ll continue your work with structured follow-up psychotherapy sessions, providing up to a year of ongoing support. These check-ins are designed to help you stay grounded, integrate insights, and maintain progress over time.

    • Research-Backed Effectiveness – Studies show psychotherapy intensives can produce outcomes equal to or greater than traditional weekly models, especially for trauma, relationship issues, and anxiety.

    • Accelerated Progress – Condense months of psychotherapy into just a few days.

    • Deeper Work – Longer sessions mean less “start–stop” and more opportunity to truly process.

    • Break the Cycle of Rumination – Build momentum when you’ve felt stuck in repetitive thinking.

    • Integration and Understanding – Move beyond analysis to meaningfully connect insights with lived experience.

    • Flexibility – Choose a schedule that fits your life.

    • Ongoing Support – With structured follow-ups, you’ll have consistent guidance to ensure changes last.

    • Cost-Effectiveness – The total investment is less than booking the same amount of therapy time as individual, spaced-out sessions. Intensives also include a highly tailored approach and access to additional therapeutic and clinical resources that go beyond standard weekly care.

    • Payment Options – Flexible payment plans are available to make the intensive more accessible.

    • Insurance Coverage – Sessions may be eligible for reimbursement, similar to regular psychotherapy, depending on your insurance plan.
